Charlie Stein (b. 1986, Germany) is a Berlin-based visual artist. After studying free painting and graphics with Gerhard Merz, Stein studied sculpture with Christian Jankowski and graduated as a master student. In her work, she deals with dominant cultural aesthetics questioning the modes of perception—particularly those of women that she transfigures in female robots—within a highly digitized, visually overstimulated world. In 2010, she received a DAAD scholarship to reside in Beijing, China. Solo exhibitions include Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery, in West Palm Beach (2024) and in London; Priska Pasquer Gallery, in Cologne. She won numerous awards and grants, such as ACAF Residency Grant of the Australia China Art Foundation, Shanghai; Villa Aurora Artist Residency, Los Angeles. Group shows include Perspectives, re:future lab, Berlin (2020).
